Fort Worth

Fort Worth is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas. Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the United States. Fort Worth is the 5th largest city in the state of Texas. Fort Worth is located in North Central Texas, southeast of the Texas Panhandle. Fort Worth is a gateway into the American West and covers nearly 300 square miles in Tarrant, Parker, Denton, and Wise counties. It is the county seat for Tarrant County. In 2010, Fort Worth had a population of 741,206. Fort Worth is the second largest city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Fort Worth is served by four interstates highways and two US highways. Interstate highways: I-30, I-20, I-35W, and I-820 are all highways within city limits. Arlington, Grand Prairie, and Dallas are all connected to Fort Worth by Interstate-30 and Interstate-20. I-35W connects the city of Fort Worth to the city of Hillsboro (to the south) and the cities of Denton and Gainesville (to the north).

Fort Worth was established in 1849. Currently, Fort Worth is proud of its Western heritage and traditional architecture and design. Fort Worth was a stop along the Chisholm Trail, which is where of cattle were driven north to the various markets. Fort Worth eventually became the center of huge cattle drives. Forth Worth earned it the nickname "Cowtown" because its location on the Old Chisholm Trail helped establish Fort Worth as a trading and cattle center.

In 2000, Fort Worth had a population of 534,694 people.
