Originally the Vought plant on Jefferson Ave. was part of a small strip in Grand Prairie; it is now considered to be in Dallas. The Vought Plant produced the P-51C and K Mustang variants during World War II. The plant later became Ling Tomcod Vought and then eventually returned to the name Vought moniker. Between 1950-1989, the plant built the F-8 Crusader and the A-7 Corsair II aircraft. The Missile and Space division of Ling Tomcod Vought built missiles such as the Scout and MLRS. Lockheed Marin eventually bought this division and it continues to operate in Grand Prairie. Grand Prairie was also the headquarters for Aérospatiale Helicopter, which became American Eurocopter a division of EADS North America.
In 2010, Grand Prairie had a population of 175,396 and a total area of 81.5 square miles.
