McKinney is a city located in Collin County, Texas. In 2010, McKinney’s population was 131,117. McKinney is listed by the Census Bureau as the nation's fastest growing city (among cities with more than 50,000 people) from 2000 to 2003 and 2006. In 2007, McKinney was ranked 2nd fastest growing among cities with more than 100,000 population. In 2008, it was ranked as third-fastest growing city with populations more than 50, 000. In 2010, Money Magazine ranked McKinney, fifth place, for best places to live in the United States. McKinney is located on the northeastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. McKinney (both the city and county) is named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and a congressman for the Red River district of the Republic of Texas.
