Rockwall

Rockwall is a city located in Rockwall County, Texas. Rockwall is a suburb of Dallas. In 2010, Rockwall had a population of 37,490. In terms of median income, Rockwall County is the second wealthiest county in the state of Texas.

The Caddo Indians originally occupied the area known as Rockwall. In the early 19th Century, Creek Indians moved to the area. In 1851, as the first settlers moved to the Rockwall area and as they were digging wells they found large underground rock walls that were initially believed to be manmade. Geologists and archaeologists studied the wall-like features and found them to be jointed, natural sandstone dikes that had intruded cretaceous marl. Rockwall was established April 17, 1854. Rockwall was named after these natural rock walls that were discovered.

Rockwall County is the smallest county in Texas. Rockwall is also one of the top five fastest growing counties in the United States. In 2006, the city had a population of 29,500. Also in 2006, Rockwall County was the fastest growing county in the United States by population.
