Rowlett is a city located in Dallas and Rockwall Counties, Texas. It is a suburb of the city of Dallas. In 2006, the population of Rowlett was 54,869. Rowlett is considered a quiet bedroom community near the city of Dallas in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and it is located on Lake Ray Hubbard.

Rowlett was named after “Rowlett Creek” which flows into Lake Ray Hubbard. Lake Ray Hubbard is a major tributary of the east fork of the Trinity River. The town was later renamed “Rowlett.” In 1886, the Dallas and Greenville Railway passed through the town. The Railway connected Dallas with Greenville, Texas and the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The Rail line was formally sold to the MKT. Rowlett incorporated in 1952 with its population at 250. During the 1960s, Rowlett declined as Interstate 30 bypassed Rowlett. Rowlett has grown since the completion of Lake Ray Hubbard in 1971. In 1973 its population was 1,600. In 1989 it grew to 10, 573. In 1990 it grew to 23,260. And by 2000 it grew to 44,503.
